Dr. Grace Nono, ethnomusicologist and interdisciplinary scholar will examine the interactions between a shaman-led fishing community with members increasingly abandoning traditional values and practices, and wetlands undergoing intensified desertification due to intensifying capitalist development. Based on engagement spanning years with a wetland community in northeastern Mindanao, southern Philippines, the talk looks into divergent approaches to conservation and explores culture-based approaches to reclaiming healthy relationships with lands, waters, and spirits.
